About AC History:
The AC, tracing back to 1851, began when the schooner 'America' won a race against British yachts. It was initially called the £100 Cup, but later renamed AC in 1857.
The New York Yacht Club received it as a challenge cup.American boats dominated until 1983 when 'Australia II' won. Since then, only four nations have won it.Emirates Team New Zealand is the most successful modern team, winning it four times. The competition is renowned for its difficulty, with numerous challengers falling short.
The current winner gets to organize the next edition, deciding on location, date, rules, and boat design in agreement with the Challenger of Record.
Experience the unique opportunity to see these sailing aces up close during the training sessions in the most advanced sailboats of the moment
The AC is renowned as the oldest international sporting trophy, with a history dating back to 1851. It is also considered one of the most challenging feats in the world of sports. For an impressive 132 years, the New York Yacht Club, one of the most esteemed clubs globally, held the coveted trophy until it was finally relinquished to Australia in 1983.
It's a true madness to witness a front-row view of a training session of the AC fleet in Barcelona! Boats that fly, accompanied by engineers in super-fast boats that follow and monitor the behavior of the crews and boats, and, of course, the spies from other teams!
This regatta is considered a true Formula 1 test of the sea; the AC75 class can reach speeds of up to 50 knots. Can you imagine watching Alinghi, Emirates, or American Magic fly in front of you at a speed of almost 100 km/h on the sea?
